HauntNighters Review: Ramsey Farms Haunted Wagon Ride & Corn Maze (2025) – Grimsley, TN ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.2/5) - Overall Rating: Hometown Heart with Room to Grow
We’ve been long-time fans of Ramsey Farms for their pumpkin patch and family events, so we were excited to check out their first-ever venture into a haunted trail. While it’s clear this is a first-year effort, the "hometown haunt" charm and family-friendly atmosphere make it a solid local addition.
Amenities
They have a big screen playing spooky movies near the field, with hot chocolate and snacks available. It’s a perfect setup for families.
Vibe
Despite the waivers and age recommendations, the experience remains mostly family-friendly, leaning more toward "spooky fun" than intense horror.
The ride is continuous, which unfortunately doesn't give actors enough time to catch up or jump on. This resulted in several "failed chases" where actors couldn't quite reach the wagon.
Scenes were set exclusively on one side of the wagon with corn on the other. This creates a "preferred side" for the best views, leaving guests on the opposite side feeling a bit left out.
The Actors: We saw a chainsaw chase and a Freddy Krueger appearance. However, the placement often gave away the surprise, as you could see the actors approaching long before they reached the wagon.
The trail featured a surprisingly memorable facade, considering it was located in the middle of a cornfield, setting a high bar that the rest of the maze is still working to meet.
Lighting Challenges
With no permanent wiring yet, the maze is very dark. While this masks lower-detail costumes, it unfortunately hid the details of the higher-quality outfits. The only "North Star" was a bright spotlight on a tower in the distance, which provided enough light to navigate but didn't help the atmosphere.
Performance
Shout out to the acrobatic clown whose physical performance was impressive! We also witnessed one actor completely floor-plant into the corn—humorous but high entertainment value.

$0.60 - $0.75/min
For the price point, it’s a very fair entry fee for a night out.
Narrative & Scenes
Building specific scenes with character interactions would create a more memorable flow than spread-out actors.
Lighting & Sound
Establishing path lighting is a must. For audio, moving away from portable radios and cellphone audio is key. These could be fine if projected properly, but from their own speakers should only be used as an intentional focus spot/red herring rather than an ambience generator. A great suggestion for ambient sound would be "Layered Directional Audio"—using hidden speakers to play low-frequency hums (infrasound) or high-pitched "mosquito" tones that create physiological unease without needing a jump scare. You can also use the older traditional methods, like sheet-metal manipulation for thunder, crash boxes for chaotic crashes, and slammed wood panels or coffin lids for deep, vibrating bangs. For a corn maze, adding rustling corn stalks, crackling leaves, branches snapping, or footsteps on gravel or dirt creates immersive ambience, while whisper tubes can pipe voices through the maze for psychological tension. These practical sounds are unpredictable and make the environment feel alive, not prerecorded.
Lantern Guides
Adding a lantern guide to the trail could help limit empty space and keep the energy consistent.
The HauntNighters Takeaway
A classic passion project and an affordable option for families.
It’s a great spooky night out without the high-stress environment of a mega-haunt. The acrobatic clown and the Midway hangout zone were highlights for us.
PRO TIP
"Grab some hot chocolate and catch a bit of the movie before you hop on the wagon. For the best views on the ride, try to sit on the side of the wagon facing the decorated scenes!"
