Black Orchard: Black X-mas 2025

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/5 (4.2/5) - Overall Rating: Intense Touch Haunt & Christmas Ambience

We swung through Black Orchard for their Black X-mas event, and despite worsening snow conditions, the weather only added to the terrifying ambience of the venue. This is an excellent regional attraction that delivers a highly personalized, intense experience.

1. Staff & Actor Performance

The actors here were incredible, defining the experience with intensity and personalized character interaction.

  • Intensity: The actors were intense and high-energy throughout. This is explicitly a touch haunt, where they will grab you and interact aggressively—even touching you with chainsaws for maximum contact.

  • Language & Tone: Be warned: the actors also make use of vulgar language, so this is not a family-friendly attraction. The theme centers on the highly aggressive, feral Black Orchard Family.

  • Standout Characters: Bray was absolutely phenomenal. We also had a unique, hilarious interaction with the Mrs. Claus of the Black Orchard family, which ended in a snowball fight! I was even stamped "Naughty" by a feral member of the family.

2. Haunt Experience & Theming

The Christmas re-theming here was comprehensive and immersive.

  • Dedication: This was not a minor retheme. The venue felt thoroughly decked out for Christmas with tons of lights and decorations, making the holiday atmosphere pervasive and creepy. Crucially, the entire experience is defined by the specific, intense hillbilly/feral family horror theme, augmented by a few cool puppet props.

  • Ambience: The falling snow beautifully enhanced the natural, rustic horror flair of the venue.

3. Pacing & Flow

The flow was excellent, prioritizing intense, personalized scares.

  • Runtime & Value: The estimated runtime for the walk-through was approximately 23 minutes, with a general admission price of $25. This equates to an exceptional $1.09 per minute.

  • Personal Touch: Because it's a touch haunt, the focus is on personal, often one-on-one, interactions, which maximizes the impact of the actors.

  • Note: It was a shame they had to close early for the weather, meaning they didn't get the full crowd they deserved on what was their final night of the season.

Final Verdict

Black Orchard delivers an aggressive, high-contact, character-driven horror experience that thrives on its unique theme and intense acting. The dedication to the Black X-mas re-theme, combined with the extreme level of actor interaction, makes this a standout regional event. At approximately 23 minutes for $25 (a value of $1.09/minute), this provides excellent value for the level of intensity offered. However, this attraction is heavily themed, and if the specific brand of rustic, aggressive family horror isn't your preference, the experience may not feel worth the effort.

The HauntNighters Takeaway

Black Orchard is a highly aggressive, touch-based experience built on powerful, intense character work (like Bray) and a surprisingly dense Christmas overlay. The high-energy, vulgar language, and use of chainsaws mean it’s strictly for adult horror enthusiasts—leave the kids at home. With an estimated runtime of 23 minutes for a $25 ticket, the value is exceptional (approx. $1.09/minute) for such a high-intensity, high-contact event.

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: The extreme theme is the defining element of this haunt. While the quality is high, if you don't enjoy the hillbilly/feral family horror genre, this haunt won't be for you, regardless of the quality of the actors. This is a strong regional offering, but only if the theme appeals to your sense of horror.
