Gatlin's Escape Games: The Haunting of Hyde House

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5/5) - Overall Rating: Highly Thematic, Interactive Gamemaster Role

This review is based on our visit to Gatlin's Escape Games during our Gatlinburg swing. "The Haunting of Hyde House" offered a deeply thematic and detailed experience that stood out due to its interactive elements and quality production value.

1. Logistics & Atmosphere

The experience was anchored by strong staff performance, despite minor technical setbacks.

  • Format: This is a comprehensive multi-room setup utilizing three distinct spaces.

  • Gamemaster Performance: We had some issues with the room requiring a brief reset, but our Gamemaster, Dan, was extremely upbeat and helpful throughout the entire process.

  • Interactive Storytelling: A major highlight was the Gamemaster's role, which was far more interactive and playful than the standard walkie-talkie voice-over. They appeared as several characters communicating through walls, radios, and telephones, which beautifully enhanced the immersion of the Hyde House story.

2. Game Flow & Design

The room excels in detail, effects, and unique physical puzzles.

  • Set Pieces & Immersion: The design features incredible detail with startling, high-quality special effects. The commitment to atmosphere is palpable.

  • Puzzle Design: The puzzles flowed seamlessly and included some fairly physical moments. Notably, I had to crawl through a tunnel and manipulate some larger objects than are typically found in escape rooms.

  • Narrative: The story was highly intriguing, featuring a clear narrative that paid off fully and satisfyingly in the final moments of the game.

3. Pacing & Value

  • Standard Value: The cost is $40 for a 60-minute game, which results in a $0.67 per minute ratio. While slightly higher than some industry standards, the production quality easily justifies the price point.

  • Discounts & Perks: Gatlin's offers excellent ways to bundle and save. If you are interested in their other attractions (Mini-golf, laser tag, laser maze, mirror maze, bumper cars, atomic rush, gel blaster), you can add these on for $10–$15 to maximize savings across their locations. Additionally, you can receive a discount on another escape room if booked within 10 days of your initial receipt.

Final Verdict

"The Haunting of Hyde House" is a high-quality, memorable escape room experience. Its success is driven by its detailed multi-room environment, willingness to incorporate physical puzzles, and the brilliant, interactive role played by the Gamemaster. Despite the small technical hitch, the professionalism of the staff ensured the immersion quickly recovered, resulting in a near-perfect experience.

The HauntNighters Takeaway

This room is an essential stop for escape room fans visiting Gatlinburg. The combination of top-tier special effects, the interactive Gamemaster role, and the satisfying narrative payoff makes this a high-value experience. Be prepared for a bit of crawling and movement—this is not just a sedentary puzzle room!
