HauntNighters Review: Howl-O-Scream Orlando 2025 ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (3.5/5) - Overall Rating: High-Octane Energy with Visual Spectacle
#1 THE COLLECTOR’S CURSE
The standout of the night. It edged out the competition with superior storytelling and a collection of excellent animatronics and detailed set pieces that kept the immersion high.
#2 WATER’S EDGE WELLNESS CENTER
A very solid take on the asylum trope. The "horrible patient experiments" were visceral and effective, delivering exactly what you want from a medical horror setting.
#3 THE WIDOW’S NEST
A favorite concept—an orphanage where the Black Widow transforms children into spider monsters. Visually stunning, but actor consistency was an issue across multiple runs.
#4 FARM 51
Standard alien invasion story. Wasted set design opportunities, but the "alien baby" scene with the deranged matriarch was genuinely unsettling. The alien leader finale was a great payoff for sci-fi fans.
#5 RAVE YARD
Initially dubbed the "Lame Yard" because we weren't fans of the "party to death" vibe. However, a second run revealed fantastic set pieces and highly detailed undead props in the crypts. A great visual effort, even if the scare factor felt off.
Vampiric makeup effects and gritty tone. Note: Screaming directly in a guest's ear is annoying, not scary.
This could have been #1, but the humor was a bit too overt. Seamen seasoning their own limbs is fun, but it kept the zone on the lighter side of horror.
Beautiful Steampunk/Victorian aesthetic. Unfortunately short and suffered from "screamer" issues.
#4 Trailer Park Tragedy: Pure camp and cheese. White trash comedy.
#5 Ashes of the Forgotten: Strongest actors, but poorly located.
#6 Woodrot Hollow: Fantastic low-sensory swamp section.
MONSTER STOMP ⭐️5/5
A Broadway-level spectacle. Even with the Jack the Ripper gender-swap, the production was flawless and remains the crown jewel.
HELLZAPOPPIN ⭐️3.5/5
Magic was great, but logistics were a nightmare. Most guests have to stand in a busy thoroughfare.
THROTTLE ⭐️3/5
High-flying stunts and intense dancing. However, it committed a "cardinal sin" against the icon character, Havoc. Turning a menacing icon into a dancer whose plan is to "party everyone to death" made the character feel corny and laughable rather than threatening.
SCORCHLINE
A high-energy rhythmic performance that added some nice atmosphere to the evening's rotation, but it was stuck in the entrance corner, which didn’t see much revisiting due to the mapping of the event.
Parking Warning
A total ripoff. Costs the same as a full day despite the short event hours. Significant blow to the "bang for your buck" factor.
Ride Execution
Only four rides running. Execution was lacking—one was a water ride. No one wants to walk houses soaked to the bone.
The HauntNighters Takeaway
Howl-O-Scream Orlando is a visual treat with some of the great set design, particularly in The Collector's Curse. The event is at its best when it leans into its dark, mature themes and at its weakest when it tries to be "campy" or "punny" with its icons.
PRO TIP
"Don't miss Monster Stomp—it's worth the price of admission alone. Be sure to budget for the expensive parking, and if you're sensitive to loud noises, be prepared for the scare zone actors; they love to scream close-range!"
