"MY BLOODY VALENTINE"

4.6 / 5.0

Haunt Experience4.5
Theming
My Bloody Valentine overlays Den of Darkness and Frightmare Asylum with heavy redecorating and character swaps. The event leans fully into sadistic, obsessive Valentine’s energy — no party vibe here. It’s darker, more possessive, and more violent in tone. However, because the houses are already dense and lore-heavy, the overlay sometimes feels like it’s stacked onto something already overflowing rather than reshaped entirely. Effective, but not transformative.
Atmosphere
Claustrophobic in all the right ways. These houses are packed — and I mean packed. Sometimes that density works against actor purpose, but the overwhelming nature of it feeds the brutality of the event. There’s no comedic relief here. It’s oppressive. It’s chaotic. It’s uncomfortable. Exactly what this event is aiming for.
Set Design
This is where Field of Screams separates itself. These sets have been built, refined, and perfected over years. Even when Den of Darkness feels like a half-constructed nightmare house, it reads as intentional. Frightmare Asylum evolves from classic asylum horror into full fever dream insanity with Silent Hill-inspired energy. Environmental effects, layered props, and actor-driven pathways (including secret passage separations) create deep immersion. This is elite-level haunt construction.
Scream Squad4.8
Intensity
When actors engage, they engage hard. From in-your-face aggression to light touch to full physical pushing down dark corridors, this is not a passive haunt. The chainsaw finales are among the best in the industry — Den of Darkness delivers around seven saws, Frightmare at least four — and yes, they make contact. It’s relentless.
Costumes
High-quality airbrushing dominates, supported by well-worn masks and detailed wardrobe pieces. Nothing feels costume-store generic. Everything looks lived in, dirty, broken down, and believable.
Performance
Dedication level is extreme. A performer holding her jaw wired open all night? That’s commitment. An actor separating you from your group through secret passages and then seamlessly reintegrating you? That’s control. Midway performers — especially the clown — keep energy high outside the houses. Even when some actors are clearly waiting for an opening due to density, the ones who engage elevate the experience to elite levels.
Operations3.8
Crowd Control
Groups of six are sent through. Frightmare’s slaughter chute staging is aggressive and effective. Den of Darkness feels more theatrical in its introduction. Timed tickets exist, but all attractions sharing the same time slot could create stacking issues on busier nights. Weather conditions (mud and rain) likely impacted flow during our visit.
Duration
22 minutes total across two attractions (12 in Den of Darkness, 10 in Frightmare). For an off-season event running only half the attractions, that’s respectable. Full October operations would dramatically increase runtime.
Line Management
Despite intentional stalling at entry points, we remained in a conga line for much of both attractions. There was enough chaos happening to keep engagement high, but immersion does suffer. Crawl spaces created literal traffic jams (with bypasses available). This is the biggest operational weakness impacting scare isolation.
Guest Services4.8
Staff Friendliness
Staff — including ownership — were accessible and informed. If someone didn’t know an answer, they immediately directed us to someone who did. That speaks volumes.
Amenities
This is where Field of Screams becomes a destination. The merch store isn’t a counter — it’s a novelty shop. Food stands are themed down to branded tables and trash cans. The Chainsaw Bar offers a low-sensory secret-bar vibe included with admission. Three escape games, axe throwing, carnival games — this is an all-night property.
Accessibility & Safety
Safety oversight is exceptional behind the scenes. Routine checks are evident. However, muddy conditions exposed weaknesses in some queue areas. Attractions are not wheelchair accessible due to stairs and terrain. Crawl sections have bypasses, and those with physical limitations should utilize as necessary.
Critical Verdict4.8
Highlight – Elite Set Design & Safety Standards
Behind-the-scenes safety checks and operational discipline are at a level most guests will never see. Combined with some of the most detailed haunt construction in the country, this elevates Field of Screams into elite territory.
Highlight – Chainsaw Culture Excellence
Few haunts weaponize chainsaws like Field of Screams. Volume, choreography, contact, and finale pacing are industry-leading.
Destination Determination
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - For the Valentine’s event specifically: Elite Regional. For October: Absolute Bucket List.
Haunt Night Vibe4.7
Date Night
Between the Chainsaw Bar, escape rooms, midway energy, and layered attractions, this can easily be a full-night haunt destination.
Bang for Your Buck
22 minutes at $28.50 = $1.30 per minute, which falls in the strong value range for an off-season, partial-attraction event. Respawns at $5 per attraction have the potential to significantly reduce that cost-per-minute if available during regular season operations.
Vibe Check
The vibe is unmistakable: industrial, brutal, relentless. No party energy. No soft edges. Just controlled chaos and dark intensity. From the slaughter chute staging to the secret-bar feel of the Chainsaw Bar to the sheer scale of the sets, Field of Screams feels like a major haunt destination the moment you step on property. Even in mud and rain, it felt powerful.
